She brings her skills to the community as Head Gardener of the Elsewhere Garden at the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow – NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde’s first skilled garden contractor.
The cornerstone of Shiona’s practice is to centre biodiversity, sustainability, and soil health, using her plant knowledge and interest in design to bring your gardens something above and beyond.
If you value plants, then Shiona is the gardener for you.

Elsewhere Garden
Designed by Scottish duo Semple Begg, the Teapot Trust Elsewhere Garden won gold at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2023. The planting was adapted and expanded for its ultimate home at the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow, where it was installed in November 2023.
Since then, the garden has been under Shiona’s care, providing a haven of luscious and whimsical perennials and trees for patients and staff to escape to.

Dior installation
In May and June 2024, Shiona worked on the planting installation, designed by Semple Begg, for Dior’s Drummond Castle fashion show.
A tenacious team worked through wild weather and unexpected setbacks to get 10,000 plants into the formal garden, creating the backdrop for the unveiling of the Scottish-inspired Cruise 2025 collection.

Mature Victorian garden
A combination of circumstances meant this mature and lovingly-planted Southside garden hadn’t been fully attended to in a couple of years.
Over the past year and a half, Shiona has renovated shrubs, nourished soil and flowering plants, and tended the garden through the seasons to bring it back to peak form.

Pond restoration
This pond had originally been installed by a client’s late wife, but had become overrun with flag iris and moss, and wasn’t holding water as it should. In the depths of winter, Shiona and her team renovated it, preserving what water and microbes there were, digging to improve the levelling, and relining.
While we waited for the water to warm up enough to add new, less invasive plants, frogs moved in and filled it with spawn. A selection of native pond plants have now been added to bolster the aquatic ecosystem, and the pond is teeming with tadpoles.

Overgrown garden
When Shiona started working at this garden, it was completely overgrown with nettles, brambles, willowherb, and many other annual weeds.
She has worked at a pace appropriate to the client to gradually clear, redesign, and replant bed by bed, maintaining a woodland feel and creating a peaceful and plant-filled space for the client – and resident wildlife – to enjoy.
