About Shiona
With a lifelong passion for plants and green spaces, Shiona completed an HNC in Horticulture at SRUC in 2022, followed by a heritage gardening traineeship at National Trust for Scotlandโs Threave Estate, where she also attained the RHS Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture.
She brings her skills to the community as Head Gardener of the Elsewhere Garden at the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow – NHS Greater Glasgow & Clydeโs first skilled garden contractor.
The cornerstone of Shionaโs practice is to centre biodiversity, sustainability, and soil health, using her plant knowledge and interest in design to bring your gardens something above and beyond.

Elsewhere Garden
Designed by Scottish duo Semple Begg, the Teapot Trust Elsewhere Garden won gold at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2023. The planting was adapted and expanded for its ultimate home at the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow, where it was installed in November 2023.
Since then, the garden has been under Shionaโs care, providing a haven of luscious and whimsical perennials and trees for patients and staff to escape to.

Some things in flower in my own garden, which is still very much a WIP.

1. Teeniest, tiniest, cerulean sweetpea which seems to have germinated from seeds left by annuals sown in a hanging basket by the previous owner. I am completely enchanted ๐
.
2. The only functioning border in the garden, a foot-wide gap between retaining wall and fence that I filled with compost - it`s the sunniest spot so could not be wasted. An unplanned mish-mash of annuals, edibles, and sun-loving perennials.

I love this peony/allium combo in a client garden. The pale pink shrub rose in the background would complete it beautifully but the buds are just off opening.

Luzula nivea, Corydalis flexuosa, Paeonia `Scarlet O`Hara`, Iris - setosa or versicolour, both are similar, and the never-ending Verbascum `Clementine` which has not suffered for the winter damp and exposure and flowers on this site from April to October.
